SUSAN HILFERTY - Costume Designer

Susan has designed over 300 productions for theatres across America and internationally. London: sets and costumes for Athol Fugard’s My Children! My Africa!; A Place with the Pigs (National Theatre); Valley Song at the Royal Court; Playland (Donmar Warehouse); Sorrows and Rejoicings (Tricycle) and costumes for August Wilson’s Jitney (National Theatre). Directorial collaborators include Robert Falls, Richard Nelson, the late Garland Wright, Mark Lamos, Frank Galati, Des McAnuff, Marion McClinton, Laurie Anderson, Tony Kushner, Garry Hynes, and David Jones. Recent work: Spring Awakening (Tony nomination); Lestat (Tony nomination); Assassins; Into the Woods (Hewes Award, Tony and Drama Desk nominations); Manon (L.A. Opera, Berlin Staatsoper). Trained at Yale, she designs for opera, film, TV and dance, and chairs the Department of Design for Stage and Film at NYU Tisch. Her many awards include 2004 Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards and an Olivier nomination for WICKED.
